NuSpark Lean launch Pad Sessions allow a learner centered dialogue about starting their businesses and creating a venture. I led these sessions with more than nine teams through the 2014-2015 school year.
I am the lead instructor for an entrepreneurial space called NuSpark just off the campus of Virginia Tech. Every other week throughout the year, I led discussions and discovery around the Lean Launch Pad (LLP) pedagogy of entrepreneurship. Teams accepted into the NuSpark space are required to have LLP training to facilitate their ability to be successful in their endeavors. Teams are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. I also have a fantastic group of mentors from various facets of the entrepreneurial community that will from time assist my efforts.
NuSpark is a start-up resource connecting the New River and Roanoke valleys of Virginia with the goal of creating 10 new start-ups and generating $10 million in fund flow within two years. Located in Blacksburg, NuSpark is a work and collaboration space for innovators with pre-launch and early stage start-ups. Here, big thinkers get educational programming to help build their big ideas into new ventures, be it a new technology, application of a technology to a social problem, or a new commercial idea.
Part of what makes NuSpark unique is the programming. Using the Lean Launch Pad and the Business Model Canvas, teams are encouraged to use customer discovery to help define the minimum viable product for their new venture. Who knows better what they want in a new product or service than a potential customer? NuSpark staff and volunteers help teams work through customer inputs.
